Gosh, I totally get the feeling of “I’ve been doing this since 2004 (so have I!); should I be doing it differently?” I never actually considered monetizing my blog until I had my first baby and really started craving more work-life independence. I’m super intrigued by entrepreneurialsism (or however you spell that word) and by people who carve their own path. I signed up for Elite Blog Academy and will be starting soon. … I’ll let you know if I learn anything valuable and if it helps shed some light on this whole bloggy thang. Hopefully so!

Cynthia! This is awesome! Although the more I look in to all this I’m starting to feel like I’ve had my head in the sand for FAR too long now, I think I may need to change direction with my 13 year old website, business, social media and my newest blog.

In some ways it’s really encouraging to read all this, on the other hand I feel like I’ve missed the boat with blogging, I should have started something years ago. I would have had a lot to offer and maybe remained at the top of my game like I was in the early days online. I’ve fallen behind and should have got in to sharing and helping other DIYers many many years ago 🙁
I’m kind of jealous actually, I see so many people making money from their websites, I started mine in 2004, looking back now I think I should have headed in a completely different direction. Instead I continue to slave my guts out making products to sell and still have no money in my bank to show for it all. I guess it’s never too late to change.
I still love being self employed and running my own business but I really think I’ve wasted years of time and maybe it wasn’t the best choice (especially when I’m always broke and now trying to raise a young family who rely on me and I never have time to spend with my kids).
I’ll be following your success, thanks for sharing and being so transparent with it all.

I love that you share this so early on. I am just getting started with my DIY/ home decor blog. I feel like I have very little time to devote to it right now, but it is inspiring to see what you’ve accomplished in a shirt amount of time!

Thanks for sharing your valuable lessons Cynthia, I don’t so much gain traffic over Instagram as I do via Facebook Groups, this actually works really well for me, and I actually have a very valuable Facebook Group Management System that allows me to organize my groups and keep track of where and what I post.
