It’s here! Now Revealing the 2018 Spring Home Tour!

Can we talk about fate, you guys?  I’ve been on the hunt for a gorgeous rug for the past few months, and I just couldn’t commit.

And I’ll admit that my search parameters for a rug were tricky too.  I wanted a colorful rug, but not TOO colorful.  And vintage, but not TOO vintage.  Ever feel that way?  So there I was, stuck, stuck, stuck.

And who should intervene but fate?  Well, fate in the form of Mohawk Home!

When Mohawk Home invited me to be a part of their spring home tour (huzzah!) and offered a rug for my review, I felt the clouds part and inspiration strike.  And I’m SO SO excited to show you our spring home.  So, welcome, welcome, welcome and come on in!

Now, for those of you who might not know, we actually just moved into our new home about four months ago.  I’m DELIGHTED to say that all of the moving boxes are unpacked.  But having the impetus of this 2018 spring home tour really pushed me to polish our formal living and dining rooms for the seasons!

Let me tour you all around!  Come on in, kick off your shoes, and stay awhile!

This front living room is one of my favorite spaces in our new home.  It feels so light, bright, and airy.  And, honestly, I spend most days in here with a cup of coffee, doing my work.

(In my day job, I work from home.  Real talk, I’m in this room ALL. THE. TIME.)

Remember how I said we were on the hunt for a rug that was colorful without being TOO colorful?  And vintage without being TOO vintage?

YOU GUYS.   Take a look at this beauty.  This area rug is just… so… I’m speechless!  Isn’t she *lovely*??  (Insert swoon here.)  I am IN LOVE.

This rug is brand new to the Mohawk prismatic collection.  It’s called the “Jasmine,” and I requested the cream color.  It’s so new, in fact, that it might not be available at online retailers yet!  I’m super thrilled I can give you guys a sneak peek!!  You can check out the whole collection right here!

And, she (because, yes, the rug is a female and we’re BFFs) gave me all the inspiration I needed to shine up our home for the home tour.  Light, bright, and happy!  That was my cue!

If I had to describe our home in general, it’d be rustic, cozy, and a little boho.  I definitely tend towards a cooler color palette and neutral tones.  You’ll see that vibe pretty much everywhere!  This rug fits perfectly with our decor, while adding a subtle pop of springtime happiness.  I love how the shades in the rug feel so perfect for the season.

Funny story: when I was prepping for this home tour, I knew I’d want to incorporate lots of baby’s breath throughout the photos.  (Does anyone else love baby’s breath as much as I do?  I know it’s usually a filler, but I say give me bunches of bunches of it, and I’ll be set.)

Anywho, my husband called me from the grocery store as I was putting on the final touches to the space.  “Hey, honey!” I asked, “Can you pick up some baby’s breath?”

Poor man.  Let’s just say he didn’t know that it was a flower and was SO CONFUSED.  “You want me to buy what?!”  The florist at the grocery store helped him out, thankfully.  The welcome basket looks so SO pretty filled with baby’s breath!

If you have one takeaway from this home tour, I want you to know this:  we truly, truly haven’t spent a fortune in this space.  Truly.

The furniture?  Most of it we built.  The coffee table, farmhouse bench, dining room table, and bookshelf?  All made with lots of love and a whole lot of sawdust.  I built the farmhouse bench and painted it with Miss Mustard Seed paint in flow blue.

Also, my birkies?  I love them.  I bought them when I was pregnant with my daughter because of the dreaded foot muffin top that happens somewhere around month 5.  Yes, I am turning into my mother.  But yes, I still wear them every. single. day.

For me, nothing says spring like when I break out my sandals.  Who’s with me?

This vintage trunk holds a special place in my heart.  About ten years ago, when my sister visited me in California, we were walking around my little town, meandering the day away.  (Remember what life was like before children?  When we could meander?)

We walked past a yard sale, and this gorgeous black trunk?  It was on sale.  FOR TEN BUCKS.  Sorry for the shouty caps, but you guys.  Seriously.

I must have done something amazing in a former life because that right there is some incredible yard sale karma.

My poor sister lugged that thing several blocks home with me, bless her heart.

On our coffee table, I made a simple tablescape with an inexpensive IKEA pitcher and a glass milk bottle, resting on a thrifted and painted serving tray.  I love the combo of baby’s breath and eucalyptus leaves!

We built the coffee table using Shanty 2 Chic plans.  And that coffee table is CHUNKY.  And heavy!  I think the combo of light, airy flowers with the sturdy coffee table is just so pretty.

My husband and I have moved a million bajillion times (actually 8 times in 8 years, sheesh.)  So it’s kinda funny when I say things like “that trunk is from a yard sale in California” or “that pillow is from Baltimore.”

For a hot minute, we lived in Las Vegas, too!  And you know what’s awesome about Vegas?  (Other than Britney in residency?)  Yep, the hotel liquidation stores!

Because hotels always update their decor, it’s really easy to find amazing pieces second-hand.  Our beautiful chair and couch?  Vegas, baby.

For my husband’s birthday, I whipped up that little wooden sign that says, “You will shelter me, my love.  And I will shelter you.”

Just kidding.  There’s nothing little about it, and there was certainly no whipping it together!  It’s about four feet wide and maybe thirty-five pounds.  It’s BIG! In fact, this was the FIRST rustic sign I’d ever made.  Because why not begin sign-making with a four-foot foot sign?  I’m an all-in kinda gal.  That project really says a lot about me, to be honest.

The quote?  It’s from our wedding song, which means the world to me.  Plus, it’s one of the only times I’ve gotten my husband to willingly dance with me.  Ah, memories.

We created our little “drop zone” by the bench, with a basket and hanging hooks.  Above it, I keep my chalkboard sign, a vintage barometer, and another hand-painted rustic sign.

This is where our diaper bags, purses, and coats go.  I’m on a never-ending quest to declutter. (Although I think I might be losing the battle.)   Real talk: our house is usually a *little* more cluttered than this.

I love this drop zone.  Creating places for things to have a “home?”  So key to keeping what remains of my sanity!

For our dining room tablescape, we kept the color palette neutral, with white and brown hues and a few touches of blue and silver.  I found most of the candlesticks, glassware, and plates at thrift stores.

Also, we made our dining room table using Shanty 2 Chic plans.  One day, I’ll refinish our chairs.  (In blue?  In white?  What do you think?)

But for now, I’m kinda loving the two tones of wood.  The tones mimic the beautiful Bulgarian rose woodcarving by the door.

That woodcarving was a present from my husband’s Bulgarian grandmother, Baba Dori, for our wedding.  She doesn’t speak one word of English, but when we visited her in Sophia, she and I got along like peas and carrots.  (Or feta and salami, Eastern European style.)
